The technology behind your firm’s matter work.

Document and email access

We help staff resolve email and document-access problems that hold up client work. When an issue involves a separate application provider, we coordinate the response and explain what happens next.

Staff and collaborator permissions

We help carry out the firm’s approved access decisions for employees and outside collaborators. When someone leaves, shared files and ongoing responsibilities stay with the firm.

Legal-application vendor handoffs

A Clio, NetDocuments or iManage problem can involve the application, account or computer. We investigate the supported business IT and share useful findings with the software vendor so your staff do not have to repeat the whole investigation.

Recovering firm-owned files

We review the protection for firm-owned files and supported systems, including how far back recovery is available and what a restore test has recovered. Our backup and disaster recovery guide explains the difference between recovering documents and bringing the firm’s systems back.

Support built around matters, deadlines, and controlled access.

A document that opens on one computer but not another can interrupt a filing, client meeting or billing cycle. DreamMSP helps resolve the account, file-location, synchronization or workstation problem behind that interruption.

Computer replacements and access changes are planned around the work attorneys and staff need to complete. Your firm sets confidentiality, retention and legal-hold rules with counsel; we support the agreed technology and vendor coordination behind them.

A lawyer working away from the office may need a large case file, while support staff need the current version for filing or client correspondence. We help the firm choose supported ways to reach and share that work without passing uncontrolled copies between personal accounts. The firm decides which matters and outside recipients each person may access.

Clio, document management and confidential matters

Clio Manage and document-management systems such as NetDocuments or iManage Work serve different parts of a matter. We support the devices, identities, and vendor connections around the tools your firm uses, so staff can work in approved matter and workspace locations.

Your firm controls staff and collaborator permissions, restricted matters, and guest access. We help put those decisions into effect and support the technology behind them.

Keep retained matters usable when systems change

An older matter may depend on a document format, archived mailbox or application version the firm still needs. We discuss those dependencies before a migration or computer retirement, with the relevant software provider involved. Your firm sets its retention and legal-hold decisions; we help plan the supported technology around the records it keeps.

Prepare for filing deadlines, not just broken computers.

A working laptop does not guarantee that an attorney can finish a filing. The work may also depend on PDF software, a scanner, a certificate, an approved portal and the correct document version. A failure in any one part can become urgent close to a deadline.

We ask how the firm prepares, reviews and submits time-sensitive work, then plan computer changes around that process. A replacement should be checked with the people who use those tools before it becomes their only option. Planned updates can be scheduled with the firm's workload in mind, with urgent security concerns discussed separately.

Where a particular employee or device is the only route to a task, we can discuss an approved alternative with the firm. That may mean preparing another supported workstation or clarifying who can access the necessary tools. Court filing requirements, deadlines and decisions about a submission remain with the firm; our role is to help the agreed technology support that work.

Share large matter files without creating another problem.

A client, expert or outside counsel may need a large bundle of documents that will not fit in an email. Sending a personal cloud-storage link can make it difficult for the firm to control access or know which copy is current.

We help put the firm's chosen sharing method into use, including the accounts, supported devices and permissions behind it. The firm decides which recipient should receive which information. If a client requires its own portal or collaboration environment, we help staff understand the sign-in and device requirements around that service instead of treating it as another copy of the firm's own workspace.

Large transfers also expose practical limits. A slow office connection or a laptop short of storage may be the obstacle even when the document platform is working normally. We investigate those surrounding problems so your staff have a usable way to exchange the work, with clear responsibility for the application itself.

An IT arrangement a partner can oversee.

The partner responsible for technology should be able to explain the current issues and upcoming decisions without reading every support ticket. We bring the business impact into the discussion.

Separate a repeated interruption from a one-off fault

If several people keep losing access to the same workspace, it may deserve a broader investigation. We explain the pattern, the work affected and the proposed next step. That gives the firm a reason to approve a change beyond simply being told that an upgrade is recommended.

Make the recurring and project costs clear

The firm can distinguish everyday employee support from a document-platform migration, office move or larger equipment replacement. We discuss the systems covered, outside application subscriptions and any separately scoped work so a partner can compare the proposed arrangement with the firm's actual needs.

Before you get started

Questions about law firm managed IT support.

Have a question about your own setup? Talk with Charles.

Can you support our document or practice-management software?

We help with the computers, accounts and connections your firm uses for document and practice-management applications, including platforms such as Clio Manage. Your firm decides who can access matters and client information. We coordinate specialist software issues with the application provider and explain the responsibilities in the proposal.

Can you prepare a replacement computer without losing our document workflow?

We plan the replacement around the document tools, printers, filing tasks and account access your staff actually use. Existing templates and important files need to remain available, and the firm approves any changes to access. Software-provider help may be needed for installation or licensing. Staff check their normal work before the old computer is retired, so the handover is about a usable replacement rather than just a new device.

Can we change IT providers without moving all our matter files?

A provider change does not automatically require a new document system. We review where the firm keeps its files, who controls the accounts and how staff access ongoing work. The handover should preserve approved access and address outstanding issues before any optional migration is considered.

What does managed IT support for a small law firm cover?

It can cover employee computer and email help, Microsoft 365 administration, maintenance, security and agreed backups. We also coordinate with document and practice-software providers when an issue crosses responsibilities. Your proposal identifies the supported systems and separates recurring service from larger projects.
